Maruti Suzuki has put a full stop to the customers' anticipation by announcing the launch date for its upcoming Baleno RS as 3rd March 2017. The company showcased the Boosterjet equipped car last year at the Auto Expo 2016 in Delhi. The one-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine christened ‘BoosterJet’ was first taken off the wraps at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and it is all set to make its Indian debut with Baleno RS.

Baleno RS will be the company’s first entry in the hot hatchback section in India. Here it is going to compete with cars like Honda Jazz and Hyundai Elite i20 with its most formidable rival being Volkswagen Polo GT TSI.

RS will have similar looks as the regular model, however, it is expected that the company will experiment with front and rear bumpers to give it a sporty touch. As seen during expo, the car will come with unique mesh grill, LED tail lamps and black painted alloy wheels. Interior of the car is spacious with enough space for five passengers and a boot space of 339 litres. The top model boasts of a plethora of cool features like touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, automatic projector headlamps and wipers, electro chromatic mirrors, keyless entry and possibly leather seats.
The USP of Baleno RS will be its 1.0 litre Boosterjet engine which develops 102 hp and 150 Nm torque. The fuel efficiency of this engine is rated at 21.4 kmpl. Maruti offers a choice of 5 speed manual or a CVT automatic gear box. Baleno will be the first Maruti hatchback model to offer disc brakes on all four wheels to provide the required stopping power.

Considering the additional features and new engine it is expected that Baleno RS will be priced slightly higher than the standard Baleno model. It will be sold through Maruti’s Nexa dealership across the country and the price is expected to be between 8.5-9.5 lakhs.
