Just before Sony and Samsung took the centre stage at IFA 2014 in Berlin, ASUS unveiled its first wearable, the ZenWatch. ASUS ZenWatch manages to grab eyeballs thanks to its impressive looks. Its 1.63-inch AMOLED display with 320 x 320 pixels resolution is protected by a 2.5D Curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It is high time that other manufacturers did the same to protect the displays on their expensive smartwatches. Unlike other manufacturers like Samsung or Sony, ASUS has given the ZenWatch a genuine leather band with quick-release clasp. ASUS preloads the ZenWatch with over 100 watch faces to suit your liking.

While the ZenWatch can be used with any smartphone running Android 4.3 or higher via Bluetooth 4.0, ASUS has added additional functionality to the smartwatch for seamless integration with the Zen UI found on the company’s extensive range of smartphones. The ZenWatch allows you find your phone and remotely unlock it too. Covering the smartwatch with your hands mutes the call on your smartphone or tablet. The remote camera functionality lets you take photos from your devices. Finally you have Presentation Control which acts as a remote control and time manager during business presentation.

Underneath the hood, we find a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and 512MB RAM along with 4GB of eMMC storage. The nine axis gyro and bio sensor monitor your physical activity like steps taken, calories burned and heart rate. Since the smartwatch has the word “Zen” in its name, it also generates a relaxation score for you to look at. The 1.4Wh battery is claimed to last before a day before needing a refill from its microUSB port.

ASUS Zenwatch will arrive in stores with an expensive price tag of 199 Euros (15,803 INR) by the end of this year. Make sure you fire your opinions in the comment section below before moving on from this page.
