Android 8.1 to come with new powerful battery saver

The world's most actively developed mobile phone operating system Android is going to be updated again soon. The current stable version is Android 8.0(Oreo) and version 8.1 is under development and testing phase. The new update will include a new battery saving feature which will help you monitor the battery consumed by individual apps.

This and many other new features were rolled out in the Android 8.1 developers preview. Users who have installed the preview version shared their experience on Twitter by posting Screenshots. The battery settings now show you the power consumed by each app. It also tells you what the apps are doing, leading to the battery drainage.

In the above screenshot, we can see that 'Maps Preview' is draining the battery, and the cause of drainage is frequent location request by the app. The red battery icon next to the alert makes sure that you do not miss the warning. You can tap on the message to see possible remedies to stop the app from consuming large power. For instance, in this case, we can turn off the location reporting as a quick fix as we can see in the second screenshot.

The large HD displays on phones are the biggest contributors to the battery drainage. But certain other factors like network conditions, background processes also eat a lot of battery. The latest Android update is a move in the right direction but certainly, new battery technologies are the need of the day.

How do you feel about this feature? Are you excited about it? Do share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

My Samsung phone has power saving mode which I absolutely like. It allows me to go several hours even with battery < 20%.

I would really like if android breakdown operating system into calling+messaging function from rest of services to save all the battery.
Google services alone eats out the whole battery. If you remember a 900mah feature phone able to live 2-3 days with a normal uses whereas those days there was lots of fluctuation in network.
Now if a 3000+ mah, phone lasts for 2 days, it's like winning marathon gold medal.
