Amazon’s Kindle Convert can transform printed books into e-books

If you are not a bibliophile but you still love to read books, then Amazon’s new Kindle Convert software is exactly the thing for you. E-commerce and tech giant Amazon have come up with a software that will allow the users to convert the hard copy of their books to e-books. Evidently, Amazon has done this to increase its digital reading market, which doesn’t have too many fans especially outside the United States.

As it happens, the process of transformation isn’t that easy. The person who wishes to do so, will have to patiently and painstakingly, scan the book one or two pages at a time using their computer scanner. When the person will scan the title page, Kindle Convert will check if the same book is already available in the e-book form, and if it does, it will prompt the person to buy the formatted version rather than scan it all over again.

According to Amazon, the software will save the handwritten notes and signatures (if any) and will also save the images as image file. But the text of the book will be OCR’d into the Kindle books format, however not without sweats. The person using the software will have to distinguish the parts of each page by marking the headings, sub-headings and text. After the scanning is over, the rest will be handled by the software which will put on Amazon’s cloud storage and the user can download it on any Kindle app they have on any device. The converted e-book will have all the feature that Kindle offers like Whispersync, dictionary look-up and ability to make notes.

Naturally, since most of the popular books today are readily available in the e-book format, Kindle Convert will be more useful for the old worn-out classics which people might want to preserve for future reading. The software is available on Amazon.comalready for Windows 7 and Windows 8 OS at the discounted price of $19.

Good for notes and small documents. Wondering if anyone would be interested in digitizing entire 100s of pages of novels and textbooks..

Not worth the effort generally unless you wish to preserve an old, worn-out classic and you want to access it from anywhere!
