Bharti Beetel Android 2.2 Tablet Launching Next Month

Bharti Group - the owner of leading Indian telecom provider "AirTel" will launch a 7" Android Tablet next month. The Beetel Group, owned by Bharti is a known name in landline equipment market. The tablet is expected to have front and rear facing cameras, 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi and Android 2.2. Rahul Mahajan, head of Beetel Teletech informed about the launch of tablet to the reporters. The press conference was organized to launch two new Beetel phones: GD 310 and GD 218. The company is aiming to be one of the top 3 players in Indian mobile markets by 2013.

Mahajan did not reveal the price of the tablet but mentioned that the prices will be competitive and offer value for money. Indian telecom market is valued at Rs. 132 million and Indian mobile brands count for about a third of it. Bharti Beetel is planning to launch about 2 phones every month to remain competitive. The sale is growing at a CAGR of 40% compared with the overall market growth of 16%. The company sells over 150k handsets every month.

It's a good sign that Indian companies are serious about entering the tablet markets. However, we fail to understand their love for Android older versions. Android 2.2 may not be the correct choice for tablets as Google's made it clear that it's not meant to be run on tablet PC. Any modern tablet should have Android Honeycomb as it's the custom version of Android meant to be run on tablets. If you have any guesses about the price of these tablets, do share with us via comments.
