What is casting and its limitations??
Casting is a manufacturing process in which a liquid material is usually poured into a mold, which contains a hollow cavity of the desired shape, and then allowed to solidify. The solidified part is also known as a casting, which is ejected or broken out of the mold to complete the process. Casting is one of the oldest manufacturing process. It is the first step in making most of the products.
Dimensional accuracy and surface finish of the castings made by sand casting processes are a limitation to this technique.
Many new casting processes have been developed which can take into consideration the aspects of dimensional accuracy and surface finish. Some of these processes are die casting process, investment casting process, vacuum-sealed molding process, and shell molding process.
