What are the different types of Wood and their usage??

Types of Wood:

1. Soft Wood

2. Hard Wood

1. Soft Wood:

Softwood is wood obtained from Conifers. Soft wood is the source of about 80% of the world's production of timber

Examples :

Pine, Ash, Beech etc

Hard Wood :

Hardwood is wood from deciduous and broad-leafevergreen trees. Hardwoods all have enclosed nuts or seeds.

Hardwood is in contrast to softwood which comefrom conifers and cone bearing seed plants. Hardwoods arenot always harder than softwoods. Hardwoods have a morecomplex internal structure than softwoods. It is mostly solidwood fibers like hollow tubes (vessels) used to supply waterto the tree. Softwoods have a structure that looks like manydrinking straws bound together all of which are used tosupply water to the tree. This give high heat compared tothat by soft wood.

Usages of Wood :

•In the form of piles, posts, beams, lintels,  door/window frames etc

• For flooring, ceiling, paneling and  construction of partition walls.

• For form work for concrete, for the timbering of trenches, scaffolding, poles and fencing.

• In building, and bridges etc.

• In making furniture of agriculture implements, sports goods, musical instruments, well curbs, carts and carriages, railway sleepers, packing cases etc.
