Which sensors are best suited for line follower robots ?

We already know the basic principle of how a line follower robot works. All it has to do is follow a black/white line which is done with the help of an infrared sensor. The question that comes to most people's mind is which module is best suited in these kind of robots, should we go along with two individual IR sensors or move to a line array sensor?

If you are just a beginner, then its better to go along with Individual IR sensors since they are easier to implement and doesn't requires much effort in coding. But the main problem is that they don't follow the line in an accurate manner because the area between the two sensors touches the boundary of the line which makes it follow a zig-zag pattern. So its better not to use during events where time and speed matters the most. In case of a line array sensor, around 8 IR sensors are connected in a line which covers a large surface area, due to this it becomes easier for the robot to work precisely and maintain its speed.
