What will you do, if you are assigned to a project which should be done with a complete stranger tool and if you are the only one in your team?

i've seen my friends struggling with a stranger tool and not knowing what to do. especially when they are the only one assigned to the project. when even the google cant help. what will you do in this situation??

That's an interesting situation - something that we faced here at CrazyEngineers. We are a small team and had to pick up on a new tool that we were not familiar with.

We dedicated 2 hours daily to learning the new tool and started practising with small, 'obvious' test cases. It helped us gain confidence in the tool and upgrade our skills-set. We were already building complex tests scripts with the new automation tool.

When you are faced with a situation where there are no options, you've to strategize and execute.

If the tool is super new to the market and there is no documentation or help available on the Internet, it's better to avoid the tool. There's no other option. I'm tagging @saandeep sreerambatla for his inputs.

Any tool will have some kind of documentation or help file available somewhere. If not for the least you will have list of functions available in that tool.

When we were learning QTP some 10 years ago ,we have very good help file for the tool but its always important on how to read the help file what kind of arguments needs to be passed and what are the return variables of all the functions.

Again if its a super new tool, experimenting it is the only solution.

If this is not a hypothetical question , can you let us know the tool here? So that we can share you or guide you on the available resources.
