Facebook Chat Now On Your Desktop - Messenger Client For Windows 7

Following the leak of Facebook Messenger Client by Israeli blog #-Link-Snipped-#, Facebook is now officially out with its messenger client for Windows 7. Facebook Messenger as a mobile app has been around for some time but this is Facebook's first official release for a Windows desktop. The messenger client is going to be a desktop download bringing Facebook Instant Message to Windows 7 platform, with no news of a Mac version of the same.

Entering the league of Instant Messaging, there is indeed competition from old players like Gtalk and Yahoo Messenger, but Facebook is no newcomer to a networking platform. With the huge number of Facebook users, it shouldn't be a difficult task for Facebook to garner a dedicated base for its messenger client. Facebook aims to improve the interface by providing alerts directly on your desktop rather than having to check the website at random intervals. Also, providing a chat client will facilitate and increase user activity.

The Facebook messenger client looks almost the same as the chat box on Facebook's site. Users can either permanently keep the chat window on their home screen or access it from the Windows system tray. Whenever friends want to chat, a notification would be sent to the user. Friend activity is also displayed on the client, though clicking on it will redirect you to the respective web page. Similar process is followed for the messages in your Facebook inbox.

The chat bar is a concentrated feature and does not allow full access to the site. So, you can accept pending friend requests but in case you want to search for new friends or check profiles you’ll need to go to Facebook's site. Video calling or voice calling is also not an available feature for the messenger client yet. Facebook says the chat bar is a trial application so updates and changes are expected.
