Zero Gravity Shoes For Moon-Walking Experience Starting At $79

Moonshine Crea, a US based startup has created shoes that defy gravity. Well, not quite, but creates the impression that you are no longer bound by earth’s pull. They are calling it the "20:16 MoonWalker” and rightly so because when wearing, it simulates walking on the moon. The company has used 2 layers of very powerful magnets which repel each other, and as a result, the wearer will feel light on his feet. Unless the wearer weighs 130 kilograms. The project is crowdfunded, prices start at $79 a few perks are still available on 20:16 MoonWalker: The shoes that defy gravity! | Indiegogo.

Inside the sole of the MoonWalker there are two layers of magnets. Each layer holds about 12 or 13 magnets, and they are arranged so that their North poles face each other, and therefore repel each other. As a result, there is a layer of space between the two magnet layers which acts as an air cushion. This provides the sense of levitation to the wearer. Patrick Jreiijiri, the designer of these wonder shoes, says that the air cushion will adjust to the way a person walks and the magnets will remain apart as long as the weight of the wearer is less than 130kg.

The magnet that powers the MoonWalker is called N45 Neodymium, which has the most strongest field of attraction. They are manufactured by combining Neodymium, Boron and Iron, and come in three levels of strength based on the composition of these three elements. They are N40, N42 and N45. The advantage of Neodymium magnets are that they are also very cost-effective. MoonWalker comes in a range of sizes and colors, but does not have a lace. It is made out of memory foam that adapts to the foot size and softly grips it. The cloth is breathable and is water resistant. The Indiegogo campaign hints at a wireless charging pad, but the manufacturers have not specified anything in detail about charging the shoes.

The magnets used in the shoes are of two sizes; 2.5cm and 5cm in diameter. They are capable of lifting weights of 12kg and 24kg respectively. The N45 imparts a field of attraction so strong that they could crush a man’s hand if it gets in the way. Although the 20:16 Moonwalker will not affect the actual weight of a person or help walk on walls for obvious reasons, it is a good toy that masks gravity.
