Your Emails & Tweets Are Adding CO2e To The Atmosphere

All your emails, tweets, Facebook likes and selfies about the upcoming Earth Day awareness are contributing to the climate change in a negative way - and that's definitely not a good news. The Earth Hour 2016 is scheduled between 8:30 - 9:30 PM today and people will be expected to turn off the lights in order to create awareness about the global climate change. Many of you will join the movement by sending emails or posting on social media, completely ignoring the fact that you'll be indirectly adding lot of Carbon-di-oxide equivalent (CO2e) to the atmosphere.

A short email message contributes about 4 grams of CO2e to the atmosphere. As the popularity of social media grows, it adds even more to the carbon content in the atmosphere. Just for the sake of records, humanity adds about 40 billion tonnes of CO2 to the atmosphere every year.

To put all the things in perspective, sending about 60 of these 4-gram emails is equivalent to driving an average size sedan for about a kilometer on the road. With that information, you can now stop spamming people with unnecessary emails or Facebook posts.

In order to celebrate the Earth Hour 2016, the Eiffel Tower, Taipei 101 and other landmark monuments will observe blackout for one hour. The suggested way to reduce the carbon footprint the common suggestions are to opt for carpooling whenever possible, eat lesser amount of meat and become an eco-friendly consumer.
