Xiaomi MiTV 2 - The 40-Inch Variant With 1080p Display Unveiled

Xiaomi Inc., a large and diversified Chinese company, has today unveiled the new 40-inch Mi TV 2 variant after introducing Mi TV 2 in May, last year. The 49-inch 4K display that runs on Android-based MIUI has been wildly popular in China. So, the company has announced a cheaper version of Mi TV 2 with 1080p display. Xiaomi’s latest affordable Mi TV 2 will be launched for purchase on March 31 via mi.com in China. It will be available at RMB 1,999 (equivalent to $322 or Rs 20,000).

Coming to the features and specifications, the 40-inch full HD LED screen of MIUI TV has a Sharp SDP X-Gen panel. The radiant LED backlight module has contrast ratio of 5000:1. Mi TV 2 is powered by MStar 6A908 Cortex-A9 quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.45 GHz. The CPU is integrated with Mali-450 MP4 4+2-core GPU. Under the hood, in addition to CPU and GPU, 1.5 GB dual-channel DDR3 RAM and 8GB eMMC flash memory are also provided. Unlike its predecessor that is 15.5 mm thick, the latest version is 14.5 mm in thickness.

The new Mi TV is not only an entertainment hub but also an Android game console. As of now, the smartTV runs on Android 4.4 KitKat OS (with Xiaomi’s MIUI) but the company has made it official that the OS is upgradable to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Mi TV 2 features Dolby MS12 for offering surround sound and H.265 10-bit hardware decoder support that can decode video formats such as H.265, H.264, MPEG4, REAL, AFS, et al. Due to this decoder, Mi TV 2 can playback RM, FLV, MOV, AVI, MKV, TS, MP4 video formats.

Many expected that Xiaomi would launch the third-generation Mi TV. Instead of that the company introduced the new variant of Mi TV 2 for meeting different demands of the users by providing two options- 4K and 1080p models.
