Wrist-Based, Gesture-Enabled Drone 'Nixie' Snaps The Perfect Aerial Selfie

It's raining wearables in the electronic market, so time wasn't far when we had our own wearable drone. The Nixie is one such attempt at creating the world's first first wearable camera drone, that could take off and capture the perfect picture or video. Developed by a Stanford postdoctoral researcher Christoph Kohstall, the Nixie is for the moments where you want to have the entire moment to yourself, and not waste a thought on how you'd be capturing it. Imagine yourself riding a motorcycles in the world's loveliest road ever, breathing in the scenery one frame at a time, while this drone does the clicking and shooting for you. That's really something, one has to admit.

The quadcopter could be folded and attached to a bracelet so that it could be taken along everywhere one goes. Jelena Jovanoic, Project Manager of the Nixie stated that this camera is designed for the special 'you' moment when you don't have a photographer or videographer around to do it for you. The Nixie understands your position, adjusts itself to take your picture, and once done, returns to you where you can just catch it and fasten it to your wrist.

Presently it's just a concept model, but Christoph hopes that it eventually gets to be a commercial working product. The prototype is developed about an Intel Edison processor that requires low power, nullifying the need of a bulky battery. The Nixie is one of the finalists in Intel's Make it Wearable competition.
