Verisante Aura™ Detects Skin Cancer (melanoma)

Verisante Technology Inc. (formerly T-Ray Science Inc.) has released Aura Skin Cancer (melanoma) detector. Aura utilizes technology developed by BC Cancer Agency and University Of British Columbia. The device has proven revolutionary in early detection of cancer. The detector captures the state of the skin and its chemical composition and processes the information to detect cancer cells. In less than 1 second, Aura scans 21 cancer biomarkers accurately and provides results.

It utilizes Raman Spectroscopy and multimodality imaging to distinguish molecules according to their vibrational states. The technology has been patent protected and in use for six year under trial. The results have shown that Aura can predict with 100% accuracy. Early and easy detection system will greatly help the medicine professionals to come up with accurate cure and also help in reducing treatment costs. It will also speed up the complete process of diagnosis by scanning multiple lesions of the at-risk persons. The detector needs no technical expertise to operate and medical technicians will be able to do it on their own.

Work on Aura began in 2000 when a group of scientists from BCCA & UBC started working on detection of cancer by unique skin characteristics. They used Raman Spectroscopy, the laser light changes the vibrational states of the molecules which results into shift in the light that is reflected back to the sensor.

Verisante Inc. is in the process of finishing the production prototype of Aura and expects to get it ready by April 2011. After the approvals and trials, the product is expected to be ready for commercial release by September 2011.
