    Engineering Discipline:
Canonical - the company responsible for maintaining and adding features to uBuntu Linux is getting ready for the next release of uBuntu. The new website to launch the next version of uBuntu is ready at http://www.thisisthecountdown.com/ . This Is The Countdown shows the countdown to the launch of uBuntu on October 13, 2011. The Oneiric Ocelot, as Canonical promises, opens a 'whole new world' and offers 'a whole new computer'. Frankly speaking, we don't think the uBuntu 11.10 will offer any of that. Of course there are many improvements over the Natty. First of all, the OS will use  linux kernel 2.6.40. You will notice a different login screen that displays a widget to login. Then there are major improvements in Unity launcher, Unity Dash, and Unity panel. [IMG]

Mozilla Thunderbird will replace Evolution as the default email application. Firefox 7 will be the default browser and there will be a backup manager called 'Deja Dup'. Deja Dup will help you back up and restore all your uBuntu files quickly and efficiently. The ALT+TAB key press will open up application switcher that works across multiple desktops. The Oneiric will also offer latest version of Libre Office - 3.4. There will be enhancements which you will certainly love.

If you like countdowns, head over to the ThisIsTheCountdown.com and inform us as soon as the page displays links to download the latest uBuntu.

By the way, the Linux Kernel used in this one is not 2.6.40 and is rather 3...
  2. Gavin
It should be Ubuntu not uBuntu.
  3. The Big K
Will have to confirm this. The specs I got say its 2.6.40.

The 11.10 beta is using 3.0. You can find more info about it here:
