Spice Fire One Mi - FX 1- The Firefox OS Phone In India Priced At Rs. 2,299

When it comes to an ultra low cost phones, the market in India is hugely dominated by the Google's Android OS smartphones. Giving a stiff competition to that, here comes Spice Fire One Mi - FX 1, priced at Rs. 2,299 - the smartphone runs on Mozilla's Firefox OS. Spice Retail Limited introduced the new Firefox OS phone yesterday and is going to start retailing it from 29th August. Having unbelievably lower prices has been a major forte for all Firefox OS powered devices so far. Be it ZTE Open Firefox OS Phone Has $80 Price Tag In US - Now Selling On eBay, the Firefox OS Gets 7 New Handsets As Mozilla Plans To 'Flood' The Market With Its $25 Smartphones, #-Link-Snipped-# or the Mozilla Firefox OS Tablet Specs Revealed - Here's What You Can Look Forward To! - the public has been completely mesmerized by the extremely low cost devices offering above average specifications.

The price sensitive Indian crowd might just have received another reason to rejoice because Spice Mobiles aims at brining a "larger than life phone statement" without having the customers deterred by the exorbitant prices. The leads from Mozilla corporation as well as Spice Mobility Ltd. are both excited and proud about launching a whole new category of smartphones at an affordable price. Well, enough talk. Let us take a look at the various tech specs accompanying the all-new Spice Fire One.

Spice Fire One Black

Powered by a 1 GHz processor, the Spice Fire One Mi comes with a 3.5 inch HVGA capacitive touch screen display. The 2G Dual SIM phone features a 1.3 megapixel camera on the rear and a 0.3 megapixel snapper on the front. Among the network and connectivity options, there's - 2G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support. As you can see from that, the specifications are quite basic. The only thing to lure the customers is the Firefox OS and the much-talked about intuitive and beautiful-looking interface (UI).

Having said that, there's just one thing that's quite disturbing. The Spice Fire One phone features an OS that's heavily built around the HTML5 standard and the specs suggest that it only support 2G data speeds. Therefore, we are worried about the phone's users craving for faster internet speeds. Other than that, the smartphone does come with some unique features such as Single Window Search (lets you find all information & available apps on the web with a single click) and Adaptive App Search. Even the Firefox OS app marketplace is getting richer by the day.

Right now, that's all we know about the new Firefox OS smartphone from Spice. The company has shared the Spice Fire One has support for some Indian languages including Tamil, Bangla and Hindi. Finally, we want to share that Spice has been really doing a great job and bring the world's innovation to Indian market. It has to its credit a number of 'firsts' - including - the first smartphone in India with 5 MP Wide Angle Front Camera, the first brand to launch a FHD screen smartphone and the first 3D phone in the country back in 2010.

If you would like to buy the Spice Fire One Mi – FX 1, you can do that for a price of Rs. 2,299 first from Snapdeal and later through major retail stores and Spice HotSpot stores. Do let us know your thoughts on the new phone in India.

What I like is that it has a Firefox os and inbuilt WiFi. Price is justified.

+2 for the pricing; how's the ecosystem for the Firefox OS? Are Skype, WhatsApp and other most frequently used apps available?

While the app store is stocked with apps from Social networks such as Facebook and Twitter it is missing the most important app that Indians like to use and that is Whatsapp. No Skype on this one. Line Messenger is available though.

Even though, the price is very very attractive, it will struggle to find takers in India since its a relatively new OS.

    Smartphone price - 2299/-
Unbelievable, You can't ask for more.

2G (though it doesn't have 3G), Wi-Fi, Rear-front camera, 1GHz Processor. Is this just the starting of a new era (or ending of Android?)

    Primary camera – 1.3 MP
    Front camera – 0.3 MP
