Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 - Specifications, Price And Comparison With Moto E

Just as promised, Spice Mobility Ltd. is going to launch its first Android One phone in India with 'Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498' - a phone with an abnormally long name priced at Rs. 6,999 - which makes it stand in the range of Moto E or Xiaomi Redmi 1S falling into the sub-$100 budget (as was announced by Google earlier this year). The Spice Android One phone will be launched exclusively on Flipkart today by 3:30 pm after an official launch at New Delhi. Meanwhile, the e-commerce portal accidentally leaked the phone on its website yesterday and thus we came to know about its specifications and price in India. Let us take a look at the details about the first Android One phone in India that is soon going to be at war with the phones from Motorola and Karbonn.

The Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 features a 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS screen with with 854 x 580 pixel resolution LCD display. Running on a Quad-Core 1.3 GHz Mediatek processor with Mali- 400 graphics unit, the Spice Android One packs 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. The Dual-SIM (GSM + GSM) device is powered by the Google's Android 4.4 (KitKat) OS and brings Bluetooth v4.0, GPS, Wi-Fi and 3G among the connectivity options. A 1700 mAh battery is said to last 10 hours on 3G. A 3.5 mm audio jack lets you plug-in earphone and FM Radio support lets you listen to songs on the go.

For the photography buffs, there's a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED Flash, 5x Digital Zoom and Full HD video recording support as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper. At 9.15 mm the phone looks pretty sleek and weighs about 107 g without battery. Spice will offer 10 GB of Spice Cloud space for free with the phone and some apps such as Flipkart, Reverie Smartpad and Google Drive (35 GB) will come pre-installed with the Spice Android One phone.

Since the phone is going to be a direct competitor for the very-popular Moto E, we thought of comparing the specs of Spice Android One with it. Here's what it looks like -

As you can see from the chart above, the Moto E seems to have quite the edge in most departments, barring the presence of a front-facing camera and having a Dual-Core processor instead of Moto E's Dual-Core. As also, the Moto E features a 4.3-inch, which is just 0.2-inch smaller than Spice’s 4.5-inch display, which might not be much of an issue because Moto E’s display has a qHD resolution (960×540 pixels), while Spice’s Android One features a FWVGA resolution (854×480 pixels). Since we haven't yet seen a hands-on, we can't comment on the Spice Android One's look & feel. It will have to compete with Moto E's inside-out nano coating that protects it from wetness.

So, that's all about the Dream UNO Mi-498's specifications so far. Does it have anything unique to offer from the features listed? Well, we will update the post as soon as the launch details are out. Till then, let us know your thoughts on the smartphone in comments below.
