Space Billboard Lets You Advertise On The Satellite

If you're fed up of seeing advertisements everywhere, this news may not be very pleasing to you. A group of researchers from KU Leuven University (Belgium) has developed world's first billboard for the space. This billboard will display personal messages and advertisements up in the sky and is expected to launch in 2016 from Brazil. The research team seems to have already received sponsorship from Microsoft. We may see Windows 10 advertisements and a personal message to all the humans from Satya Nadella sometime next year.

The team of researchers is led by Tjorven Delabie who's a Ph.D in space engineering. Delabie and his friends figured out that their passion lies in smaller satellites. They were convinced that major corporations throughout the world would be interested in a project like this. Any company can invest in the satellite as long as it's comfortable with the pricing of ~€2500 / square or about €1 / character. Few of the squares have already been bought by companies and have time to change their logo or message by May 15th.

The billboard will be placed outside of the CubeSat - a satellite that's cheaper and is of the size of a milk carton. The billboard will be 8cm x 8cm in size and has 400 squares available for purchase. Apart from convincing billion dollar corporations to put their logo on the satellite, the team is working on ensuring the launch by January 2016. We wish them all the best!
