Sony's 12.9-inch Tablet Might Gear Up For War Against iPad Pro And Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro

Japanese multinational conglomerate Sony, in competition to iPad Pro and #-Link-Snipped-#, is allegedly launching a 12.9-inch display tablet. After the launch of Sony Xperia Z2 And Xperia Z2 Tablet Launched At MWC 2014, Sony is supposedly getting ready to launch its biggest tablet ever which might be unveiled sometime in the first half of 2015. The device is going to enter into bulk production in a short period of time. The news, if true, will be an extremely positive step by Sony to get back into the race to the top with players like Apple and Samsung.

According to sources, the tablet will be made by the famous Taiwanese electronics company Pegatron Corporation. It is the same company that makes Microsoft’s surface tablets and Apple’s iPad. When asked about it, Pegatron declined to reveal the details of its customers. With such a robust manufacturer, it may be possible that the price of the tablet will exceed $1000 (approx. 64,000 INR). With such a cost, the device will target only the ‘other-half’ of the segment.

Some specs of the tablet are out too. The 12.9-inch display has got a screen resolution of 3840x2400 pixels. It has a Qualcomm processor and a back camera of 8 megapixel. Probably, its 8.6 mm thickness will be the best feature of the device. Apple’s iPad Air and iPad Air 2 are 6.1 mm and 7.5 mm thick respectively. Apple might receive a good competition from Sony if the thickness of their iPad Pro is somewhere near Sony’s alleged device.

The sources could not ascertain the details of the battery of the device and whether or not it will have a front camera. But they said that the related components of the device are all manufactured and the company is all set to go into the mass production. With tablets being the trend among the top manufacturers, it is possible that other companies might soon follow the suit.
