Sony Unveils Xperia M4 Aqua Waterproof Android Lollipop Smartphone

Sony’s smartphone division has quietly unveiled their new mid-range offering, the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua. The new smartphone gets its name owing to its waterproof nature. While previous Xperia offerings like the Xperia Active had caps to prevent water from entering into the smartphone, the Xperia M4 Aqua offers cap-less access to its microUSB port. This means you can shoot photos and capture videos 1.5 metres under fresh water for up to 30 minutes. If you are interested in the actual figures the Xperia M4 Aqua has an Ingress Protection rating of IP65/68 which means its dust resistance level is IP65 and IP68 signifies that it can withstand splashes and submersion into water. On the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua body you find Sony’s OmniBalance design that is accentuated by its trademark aluminium power button and metallic frame.

On the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua we have a 5inch HD resolution display that is protected by a tempered glass. Underneath the hood we find a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa Core processor (Quad-core 1.5 GHz + Quad core 1.0 GHz) and 2GB of RAM running Android Lollipop operating system. The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua has an internal memory of 8GB and it allows you to expand that storage with the inclusion of a microSD card slot. Sony makes a great deal about the cameras on the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua. The smartphone has a 13MP rear camera that is made out of Sony’s home grown Exmor RS mobile sensor. The camera on the rear is complemented by Sony’s software that is able to identify 52 different scenarios and configure the shots accordingly. The phone has 5MP selfie shooter as well. Taking a cue from erstwhile Nokia, Sony has developed and preinstalled the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua with camera centric apps like Movie Creator, AR Fun, Portrait Retouch, Sound Photo and more.

The smartphone offers LTE connectivity and is powered by a 2400mAh battery that can last for up to two days on average use. The phone is equipped with connectivity features like Wi-Fi, microUSB, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS navigation. The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua measures 145.5 x 72.6 x 7.3 mm and weighs 136 grams. The newest offering from Sony is expected to go on sale this spring across the world for a price of 299 Euros (20,691 INR).
