  A good tester or a good software developer will always find employment. Your second question isn't very clear. Please clarify.

  I don't think there is any rule of thumb specially made for developer / tester.
  To be successful in the industry, all you need to do is efficient work or it should be perceived by an idiot manager.
  
  There is a law for factory labors in India. I guess people working in software industry comes under this.
