Singapore-Based Firm AdNear Using Data Collecting Drones To Deliver Targeted Ads

For any promotion campaign, reaching correct cluster of audience is always a matter of great importance. This company makes the best use of technology to do so. Meet AdNear- a Singapore based location-marketing firm that has adopted an innovative strategy of using drones to collect information about people to deliver the targeted ads. The only aim of AdNear is to collect wireless location-specific data around regions. This would then be used for targeting audience for marketing campaigns. Using already available consumer drones, the company can capture the smartphone location and its movement in the region even without the help of GPS.

The Singapore-based company's staff was recently spotted in LA experimenting with drones. Once the data is collected, the analysis of historic data in combination with user content behaviour gives strong audience insights for successful marketing on mobile devices. Till now AdNear has used cars, bikes, trains etc. to collect data including Wi-Fi signals and mobile tower signals. Based on the wireless signals collected, the company then uses its location platforms to precisely locate the nearby devices. AdNear blog has claimed that the initial tests findings were successful and the method of using drones is one of the most efficient methods. The company points out three important factors of using drones-better altitude coverage, radius beyond roads and GPS controlled flight path. Obviously, human interference can significantly be reduced when drones are involved and even remote areas can be covered.

The company has also pointed out that it plans to use drones in select geographical areas to collect wireless data. Not forgetting the critical issue of users’ privacy, AdNear has made it clear that it is concerned only with the wireless signals and would neither capture any photos or videos nor any personally identifiable information would be involved. AdNear has operations in Singapore, India, Indonesia, Japan, Australia and US. Do share your thoughts on how effective you think is to use drones for targeting audience and what could be the drawbacks via comments below.
