Samsung May Announce World's First Foldable Phone In January

Samsung is likely to announce world's first foldable phone as early as in January next year, reports GSMArena. Just about a few months ago, one of the Samsung executives had announced that the company is working on a 'bendable' phone - a phone that would look like a diary. The latest leak comes from a reliable leakster, Weibo, that the S.Korean company is calling their secret project 'Project Valley' internally and is readying it for public debut.

The foldable phone will be a hardware powerhouse, as the leaked information suggests. Samsung's playing with Snapdragon 620 and 820 - and it's not clear whether there will be two models of the phone targeted at different geographical markets. The phone will surely have at least 3GB of memory.

Other bits of information point that Samsung may include support for microSD slot so that people don't complain much about the limited storage capacity. The battery, however, is likely to be non user removable. Not much information is available about the display yet; but we can safely assume that it will be OLED; which Samsung's been pushing on its high-end Galaxy devices for a while.

Samsung may just introduce the phone early next year, at the Mobile World Congress or through a new Samsung Unpacked event. Project Valley is definitely interesting and it's guaranteed to push the boundaries of innovation. If Samsung gets it right in the first attempt (unlike Sony's Tablet P), we may see a new product category emerging.

Are you excited about the foldable phones? Let us know.
