RV Sindhu Sadhana - India's "Research Ship" Launched

RV Sindhu Sadhana is India's indigenously built 'Research Ship' aka a floating laboratory. The ship is equipped with multiple laboratories to conduct research on data collection and analysis, echo sounders, acoustic doppler, profiler and can act as a completely autonomous weather station. The ship will also conduct research on air quality and is equipped with the latest machinery and equipments allowing the researchers to conduct experiments and research in the field of ocean technology.

The Council of Scientific And Industrial Research of India, aka CSIR had been looking for acquisition of a research vessel to carry out various programs offered by the National Institute Of Oceanography (NIO). India's first multidisciplinary oceanographic research vessel, RV Gaveshani served between 1976 - 1994 and since then another vessel, "Sagark Sukti" was acquired. Special budget of Rs. 190 crore was allotted to build one of its kind multidisciplinary oceanographic research vehicle, and the result it RV Sindhu Sadhana. The ship was expected to join the NIO in 2012 (#-Link-Snipped-#).

Sindhu Sadhana is 80 meters long and about 18 meters wide. It's about 7.3 meter tall till the main deck and capable of sailing at an average speed of 7.7 / 6 knots. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of Goa State in PMO affirmed that Sindhu Sadhana would enable an economic breakthrough in the area of shipping, fishing along with setting up submarine pipelines and exploration of natural gas and oil.
