Rotimatic - Fully Automatic Roti Maker From Zimplistic

A Singapore based startup has designed and developed Rotimatic - a fully automatic roti maker for those who love Indian food. The company claims that it's world's first machine of its kind and all you need to do is add dry atta & water and then select how many rotis you wish Rotimatic to make. The machine will then do some mechanical engineering to dish out hot Rotis ready to serve. Love & affection of course is not included.

rotimatic

The price isn't announced yet, but the product itself will be available commercially in September 2013.

It looks to me like a 'Roti' printer 😁. Instead of your regular ink; you add water and dry atta and the Rotimatic will do rest of the job. I'm yet to see a demo, but if someone finds a video do share it here.

What do you think - will this product be successful among Indians living abroad? Do you see demand for this in India itself?

Update: We got the Rotimatic Founder and CTO Pranoti Nagarkar to answer questions. Do not miss our exclusive interview:

Looks like the interest in this product has gone up significantly in the recent times. The official website of the company says that the first batch of Rotimatic will ship in December this year, but we still don't have any information about the price of Rotimatic. What I found though is an interesting video that shows Rotimatic in action, check it out (it's cool!) -

There are a few interesting things about the product that should have caught your attention - the machine lets you decide the quantity of rotis, thickness, softness and the amount of oil you want to use for your rotis. The machine is capable of holding ingredients for about 20 rotis at a time (sufficient for up to 4-5 people, I guess) and the machine can 'print' at the rate of about 1 roti / minute; which is quite impressive.

It'd be great if the Rotimatic team can talk to us about how they developed the product and a little insight about the mechanical engineering that goes behind the scenes.

We'll keep an eye on the pricing & other details.

They're yet to launch the product in the market. The company is based out of Singapore and no information is available about their plan to launch in Indian markets. I believe they'd target the Indians in western and the European markets first before launching the product in India.

The price of Rotimatic is yet to be officially announced. We'll keep this discussion updated as soon as we get more information.

I really doubt they are the official company. Beware of the fakes (not that I'm suggesting that the company listed above is fake; but to the best of my knowledge - the official makers of Rotimatic is a different company). Official price of Rotimatic in India or any other markets is yet to be revealed. I think we'll get in touch with the officials and have them comment here.

#-Link-Snipped-# On the official website, they have now mentioned that "Rotimatic is not available in the market currently."
Their first launch market is going to be Singapore and they have shared that other geographies will have to wait a while as they plan to expand market by market.
Interested customers can sign up on their page - #-Link-Snipped-# to get the details before others.

It will be interesting to know how authentic do rotis made out of rotimatic are. Indian rotis are different than the fermented western breads.

We just can't have half-cooked or over-cooked rotis.

Prices are announced. Pre-order price is 599 USD and after that 999 USD!

Looks like this machine will churn out rotis made of GOLD! 😁
  • Kaustubh Katdare
    Kaustubh Katdare
Holi Ravioli! $599 / $999 for Rotimatic? Just verified that they're actually pricing it that high! Here's a screenshot from their official website -

    Rotimatic-Price

Classic example of pricing gone wrong!
I'd rather learn to bake rotis myself than ordering this one. I hope the Rotimatic folks will reconsider their decision.

PS: On a second thought, this might actually get clients for that price. In the United States, most of the Indian families buy the Rotis for the entire week and then store them in the refrigerators. The family seldom gets to eat hot, oval roties for lunch/dinner. Wishing Rotimatic all the best with their product. I personally won't buy it.

What do our fellow engineers think about the price of Rotimatic? Is it worth it? If not, what'd be the ideal price for this product, in USD?
  • rikil

Well, however great the machine be, it is highly over priced!

If user can take at least pain of making dough or use very cheap dough-maker, then the mechanism of machine can be minimized thus resulting in lower cost. After dough is made externally, all we need to do is extruding and stamping of dough balls.

#-Link-Snipped-# - The product listed on Shopclues is different from Rotimatic. I don't see the Rotimatic branding. The seller is 'Rohan Home Automation & Security Systems, Punjab', while the Rotimatic is Singapore based. The official product looks like this -

Just for the sake of clarification: CrazyEngineers or I are NOT official representatives of Rotimatic. A lot of readers have been contacting us to enquire about the Rotimatic equipment. I'd request all the readers to visit the official rotimatic website: rotimatic.com for all the details and official communication.

If you want to express your independent views, opinions or have questions about this machine, you may ask them here. I'm sure all our fellow engineers would be happy to discuss.

    Commonly Asked Questions:

    1. What is the price of Rotimatic in India?

Answer: The official listed price for pre-orders is US $599. That's quite a lot of rupees and you should also add taxes. The final price will be revealed only when the product is officially made available in India; and we've no clue when will that happen.

    2. I want to contact Mr. Kaustubh Katdare for enquiry about Rotimatic. Can you please pass on his phone number?

Answer: CrazyEngineers or I aren't the right people to talk anything about Rotimatic. You should contact their officials.

    3. When will Rotimatic come to India?

    Answer: Absolutely no idea, boss!

    Thanks!

Dosamatic Founder - Mrs. Pranoti Nagarkar Israni has been featured in an exclusive interview with CrazyEngineers.

In July this year, Pranoti Nagarkar-Israni's company Rotimax received a funding of $11.5 Millon for expanding their presence internationally. This was their second round of funding. The first one happened in 2010 when NSI Ventures invested $1 million in this project.

The mentioned retail price on the official Rotimatic website is $999 which translated to ~ Rs. 65000 in India. In our exclusive interview with Pranoti, Co-Founder Rotimatic (Read Here: How Out-Of-The-Box Thinker Pranoti Nagarkar Created 'Rotimatic' - World's First Roti-Making Robot), she said:
As we scale up and when there are opportunities to bring the cost down in the future, we will. Our mission is to place Rotimatic in the home of every roti-lover and simplify their lives.
