Reliance To Launch Apple iPhone (CDMA) In India - Are You Excited?

Reliance Communications may soon launch the iPhone CDMA in India - reports BGR claiming that several people who're aware of the matter have confirmed that Reliance and Apple have already signed a deal and an official announcement is likely to be made in the next few days. RCom, headed by Anil Ambani recently got contract from big brother Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio for sharing of the mobile tower infrastructure, worth Rs. 12,000 crore. RCom believes that the high-end gadgets like iPhone would allow it to retain their premium customers and push the data revenues.

An RCom executive revealed to BGR that the company believes in CDMA technology as a better choice of technology over GSM for data related services and are planning to launch high-end smartphones on both CDMA and GSM networks. RCom's phone launches won't be limited to Apple, but the company is said to be in talks with other premium smartphone vendors like HTC and Lenovo to allow customers to have a wider choice on both CDMA & GSM networks which the company operates.

If Reliance Communications actually launches high-end smartphones in India - it won't surprise us that they'll bundle data plans with it. If you're a Reliance subscriber looking to purchase a smartphone, it'd be a smarter decision to wait for a few more days. Reliance will definitely launch the phone with an attractive offer.

Apple has now understood the importance of Indian markets as they experience unexpected level of interest in their products in India. In the recent times, Samsung and Apple have been at war with Zero percent EMI schemes coupled with buyback offers for your current smartphone. The recent reports show that iPhone demand has grown by about 4x in the recent times in India. Apple's been working with leading telecom network operators in India viz. Aircel & Airtel. The company is also expected to announce a cheaper, more budget friendly iPhone in the next few weeks with lowered tech-specs. It's apparent that folks at Apple have began experiencing the heat from the competition offered by Samsung's Android powered phones and tablets.

Reliance had recently launched CoolPad - which is a low-end Chinese brand in Indian markets. It obviously didn't perform well, and that could have triggered a new strategy for Reliance Communications - to test the markets with high-end devices.

We'd like to know from our readers their opinion on whether iPhone CDMA bundled with Reliance data plans makes sense? Would you want to buy it? In the mean time, stay tuned for the Apple's conference at the WWDC where it's expected to announce iOS 7 and an updated OSX.

On a related note - Have you all noticed how the Ambani brothers are rolling up their sleeves to totally dominate and control the mobile communications in the coming years? 4G will definitely be the default technology for communications by 2014 or 2015. By the the bigger brother will control the network and younger brother will control infrastructure and also the gadgets! Smart move, I must say.

Rivals IDEA, AIRTEL, Tata should definitely take some serious steps now. The 4G adoption in India, I believe would be mainly controlled by the pricing - and that's exactly where the Ambani brothers are heading.

Perhaps its going to bring another sea of positive changes for the customers, just like it did when Reliance brought the CDMA technology to India.
