Proposed Jet Plane Can Cover A Whopping 9,929 Miles In Just 32 Minutes

Canadian engineer Charles Bombardier released an “open access” idea online which describes a hypothetical concept of a privet jet running at high-hypersonic speed with a maximum possible Mach number of 24. Named as “Antipode”, the jet is conceptualized as a business aircraft designed to transport top ranking officials requiring fast transportation. It can reach a maximum speed of 16,000 mph.

Inspired by his previous idea dubbed as “Skreemr”, Charles countered the two main problems appearing in Skreemr’s design. The Skreemr was dependent on a magnetic railgun launching system and a Scramjet engine. It was however not well equipped to avoid the sonic boom noise it would generate over land and the enormous amount of heat that might build up on its nose and wings.

The latest Antipode got rid of such glitches using the aerodynamic phenomenon called long penetration mode (LPM). After releasing the Skreemr outline project, Joseph Hazeltine of Wyle Inc. contacted Charles to take his idea forward.

Unlike the Skreemer, the extended wings would flaunt prebuilt reusable rocket boosters that will provide enough thrust to self-launch and climb up to 40,000 feet to reach Mach 5. Then the acceleration boosters will be detached from the wings and fly back to ground. After reaching Mach 5, the on-board programmed computers would ignite its supersonic combustion ramjet engine and accelerate up to Mach 24 at an altitude of 40,000 feet. Mimicking the human Lung, the Antipode will breathe out some air flowing at supersonic speed from the nozzles fitted in its conical nose and other leading edges.

Channeling out the air will dampen the surface temperature and decrease shockwave and noise. The newly designed wings of the aircraft would have enough lift to land on a 6000-foot runway. Emergency compact rocket boosters could also be ignited if required during the second landing.

The project is still at its infancy and needs proper fine tuning and further development of the LPM concept, before the idea can be implemented in practice. There is however little doubt that the idea and the proposed design is revolutionary and has the potential to usher remarkable advancements in the field of aerodynamics and transportation technology.
