Possessed Hands For Musicians

"Prostheses" is a branch of technology, which has seen some important inventions, recently. Now apart from the simple limbs, we can have limbs with senses too. An innovation is still undergoing some final touches. Although it is not an artificial limb, still it can help those who have lost the functioning of their hands due to an accident or spinal break down. Moreover, how about if you can compose nice music on Piano even if you are not a skilled musician? Well all the above things will soon be a reality is scientists designing an Arm band aka possessed hands are successful in their attempt.

[IMG]A group of scientists at "University of Tokyo" (Todai) and "Sony Computer Science Laboratories" together are trying to make an arm band which can make your fingers move depending on the electric current passing through them. The arm band is equipped with 28 electrodes which send electric pulses to the nerves which are responsible for movements of your fingers. This technological breakthrough is enough for those amateur musicians who want to play some good music.

The concept of Possessed hands evolves from the fact that any ordinary person’s nerves get ‘orders’ from brain in the form of electrical signals. In some unfortunate cases, a person who has suffered a spinal cord injury loses control over his limbs because the nervous circuitry is severed. Possessed hands, works on a technology to tap those electrical signals and communicate them to your fingers. It makes our hands work very close to the actual. A similar coordination can be achieved between the functioning of flexor muscles and extensor muscles. When the former contract, the later relax and the supporting muscles either relax or contract depending upon the status of flexors and extensors.

Now a question may arise in the minds of music lovers, Can possessed hands really help a person to compose great music? To those, the technology is still undergoing changes. However, in near future we may see people wearing these special armbands while practicing music. As a matter of fact, a mere technology cannot make you a great musician on the contrary it can only make you learn the basics. To become a maestro you need to constantly experiment with your work.

Technology always advances; hence in future we may see even wider applications of possessed hands. It can be used in robotics by integrating this technology in robots. The current problems faced by patients are anyways solved, blessing them with them with their movements again.
