Pebble 2 and Time 2: Smartwatches With Activity Trackers Are A Hit On Kickstarter

The genesis of smartwatches is back in business. Before Android Wear became the staple there were these guys from Pebble who made the first smartwatch that struck gold on Kickstarter and became a household name in wearables. Pebble is back with two new smartwatches, the Pebble 2 and Time 2. So what is the biggest addition in this new iteration? Well it’s the presence of fitness trackers inside both of these smartwatches. With the Pebble 2 and Time 2, the company is trying to entice users who want a Fitbit and an Android Wear watch but can’t choose between the two. The Pebble 2 that sports the good old e-ink display will be sold for $129 in Flame, Aqua, Black, White and Lime colour variants. The Time 2 the one with the colour e-ink display will be available for $199 in Black, Gold and Silver colour variants.

Pebble 2 and Time 2 both have always on displays which means you can check your notifications by glancing at the smartwatch when they arrive. No need of pressing a button to unlock it, your notifications are right where you need them. Just like other smartwatches Pebble 2 and Time 2 have added the Timeline feature that helps you look up information from your calendar, weather, travel are arranged neatly in a scrollable timeline. The biggest addition is the presence of activity trackers on both of these watches. The built-in activity tracking and the new Pebble Health app will help you keep a track of your heart rate, steps and sleep stats. The mobile app shows you the amount of calories burned active time, distance and resting heart rate. The automatic sleep tracking feature tracks when you are sleeping and wakes you up at a time when your sleep is at the lightest.

Both the Pebble 2 and Time 2 are water resistant to up to 30 meters and are compatible with iOS and Android. You can create voice notes and instead of typing you can dictate replies for your text messages. The highlight of these smartwatches has been their phenomenal battery life and the new ones continue this trend. You have a week of battery life on the Pebble 2 and 10 days on the Time 2. There is a plethora of apps and watchfaces on the Pebble store that lets you customise your smartwatch.
