Omate S3 Swartwatch Designed For The Elderly Launched With 149 Euros Price Tag

Omate, the Chinese OEM, has unveiled a new smartwatch - Omate S3, in an event held in Monaco. The company which designs and makes hardware and software for its wearable IoT products, is backed by 500startups and has also funded some of its earlier products like the Omate TrueSmart, through crowdfunding site Kickstarter.

The Omate S3 has a very conventional structured design, with its own variations. Unlike the earlier launched Omate Wherecom K3, which was a kid's smartwatch, S3 as the company claims is a next gen smartwatch tailored for the elderly and senior citizens, who wish to stay updated with their children and grandchildren, living far away. The screen and touch panel is very much similar to the Wherecom K3, except that this one isn't that vibrantly coloured and has been given a black colour from the screen to the straps. Also to boost simplicity for the elders, one of the buttons is red and straps are interchangeable.

Its specs are pretty impressive. The S3 inhabits 3G dual core 32 bit 1 GHz AIM Cortex-A7 MediaTek MT6572M on the ARM Mali-400 MP GPU, which is popularly used in low power IoT devices like the wearables due to its efficient design and perfect power savings. With Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS as well as 3G connectivity, the user has many ways to be connected and update his/her location.

The watch promises a rich and clear, loud and dynamic sound to make the voice calls top notch. To prove the point, K3 is certified by Arkamys, a recognized leader in audio processing. However, the device has mono speakers. The watch has a 4 GB ROM and a 512 MB RAM, a 600 mAh battery, which is said to last for two days. The device supports major audio and video formats, and supports micro-SIM. On the UI and UX aspect of it, the device features a 1.54 inch (4 centimetres approx.), 320x320 resolution display.

Talking about its software and OS, the Omate S3 sports Android along with Omate's Wherecom Senior UI. The device is not only a GPS tracker, but also works as a standalone Smartwatch, with all the major features of a phone. S3 can make calls, text message, set alarms, track steps with the in-built pedometer and a one click SOS button to send the location to desired contacts. The smartwatch will be available with a price tag of 149 euros (Rs. 11,300) from September this year.
