NISSAN's DC Charging Station Will Charge Your EV In 10 Minutes!

Recently, news broke out about the new battery charging system that Nissan is planning to employ in its cars. The automaker has vowed to drastically reduce the charging time required to charge an EV. The research is on to achieve 80% charged condition from fully discharged in merely 10 minutes. Well, the development is quite astonishing as presently we have seen only 30 minutes minimum. The reduction in time will improve people's interest in switching over to the EVs. But what is more important in this regard is the absence of the otherwise costly 'Lithium' which discourages the use of electric vehicles in most of the developing nations; in Asia and Africa.

Nissan's new, slimmer DC fast-charging station. The manufacturer is developing a super-rapid charger that can recharge an empty battery in 10 minutes.

Yes, even though people say a lot about Lithium ion batteries, manufacturers in India have refrained from getting them in their electric two wheeler, if not in cars. They look to reduce cost by using the lead acid batteries which drastically defeats the purpose of using an Eco friendly battery. Although the concept of having a fast charging DC batteries have been in existence since a long time, it is only recently that the market is looking more positive towards adapting the changes. A few days ago, #-Link-Snipped-# in Europe and US agreed to introduce a standardized battery charging system. A remarkable feature in this pact was the R&D to be done for introducing less battery charging time.

In its efforts to mobilize the EV market, Nissan has resorted to use a #-Link-Snipped-# to enable battery to charge and discharge rapidly. In this attempt, the automaker is collaborating with Kansai University and Nissan Boffins. The trio have invented a capacitor made from Oxides of Tungsten and Vanadium which posses properties of rapid charging and discharging to aid the purpose. The capacitor so developed is also durable.

Reports say that it will take another decade to commercialize the product while we can see some real development happening in the regard in next five years. Even the other automakers will try to get similar technology else might face a tough competition in near future. The pact between the seven auto manufacturers on one hand and Nissan on other side is perhaps the indication of the same. #-Link-Snipped-# to set up charging stations across country and the electric charging stations in its plant by #-Link-Snipped-# (which is out of any such pact) points in only one direction which is a changing EV scenario of world. Anyhow, if the 10 minute plan is successful, we can see a further reduction to 3 minutes or so in coming years.

Now for Gasoline vehicle owners- If you are thinking that fueling your vehicle takes minimum time think again; EV is coming!
