Nikon D810A DSLR Camera To Help You Capture Astronomical Objects In The Night Sky

Japanese imaging and optics experts from Nikon are introducing a variant of their earlier launch of Nikon D810 DSLR camera. The newbie is named Niko D810A and here we have a camera fully optimized for astrophotography. Definitely a good news for camera buffs who love to capture the night sky, the astronomical objects, the mesmerizing stardust and the interstellar activities. Let's take a look at how D810A captures these space pictures and what hardware helps it to do so.

The Nikon D810A camera’s IR cut filter is designed in a way that allows transmission of hydrogen alpha spectral line. It has four times greater sensitivity of the 656nm wavelength when compared to s normal camera. On the other hand, most cameras’ IR cut filters allow only those wavelengths of light which are visible to a human eye. Due to the greater sensitivity, D810A lets you capture the red hues of diffused nebulae and constellation. But this high sensitivity makes this snapper unsuitable for normal photography.

Coming to the other features of this space shooter, a shutter speed that can be varied from 4 seconds to 900 seconds (15 minutes) and a wide ISO range which varies from 200 to 12,800 (Hi2 51,200). The D810A contains an electronic front curtain mode which uses electronic front curtain on the sensor as a shutter instead to the mechanical shutter. It eliminates the minor shake made by mechanical shutter.

While speaking about the newest launch, Director of marketing and planning of Nikon - Masahiro Horie added that, the Nikon D810A is engineered exclusively to meet the unique demands of professional and hobbyist astrophotographers. Nikon D810A will be available by May 2015, however its pricing is not yet confirmed. What is your view on D810A and astrophotography?
