NASA and Harmonic Announce UHD Video Channel In North America

NASA, in association with Harmonic - a global leader in video delivery infrastructure, has announced the launch of NASA TV UHD. The new non-commercial channel will deliver linear 2160p60 (that is 60 frames per second) video stream all over north America starting November 1 after successful completion of preliminary tests. The current NASA TV channel offers real time coverage of important activities of the agency round the clock. The plan for the new channel looks quite similar to the way NASA TV works.

The new UHD channel will be accessible from a wide range of devices with Internet connection delivering 13 Mbps or more. Harmonic is currently in talks with the TV network operators to deliver the content via satellite, optical networks and cable to the end users. As NASA TV is launching a dedicated 4K channel - The Verge notes, the deal between Harmonic and TV service providers has not been finalised yet. Even the HD version of NASA TV is not available on Comcast and Time Warner.
