Narcissism - good or bad?

Hey guys,

Recently a new trend was observed from numerous studies done on social networks. It is called NPD (Narcissist Personality Disorder).

Scientists have for the first time admitted and categorized it into a disorder rather than a personality trait.

Is this justifiable? If yes, then in what ways is it fair to term narcissism as a disorder?

It is all I, Me, Myself.
I for one would not want any of that.
Here is an article on the upside of narcissism incase some one wants to derive some benefit out of it.

    Thank you for your guidance....
Could you comment on the dividing line that separates narcissism from pride?

Christianity considers pride as one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
However, probably there can be a case for a 'justifiable(?)' pride in a job diligently done and done well. This may help the individual to go on doing that.
The Baghavat Gita advocates nishkamya karma (Working without a desire for rewards). This may not suit all.
Go ahead, pat yourself on the back for something done well, put it behind and get on to the next on the list.

So is being narcissist equal to having pride or 'excess pride'?

Unfortunately words have different meanings in different contexts. Inferiority complex in psychology means something quite different from what is understood in common use.
Likewise narcissism in psychological terms means excessive interest in one's self, physical appearance and such. The person is so preoccupied with himslef/herself that they are not much aware of others. It is a compulsion. I doubt if there is any conscious pride or other domineering emotions.
However, the popular use of the term indicates a very selfish person, who is vain and wants to ride roughshod over others and such.
A narcissist is not one having pride in excess or otherwise. Patting oneself on a job well done is certainly not narcissism.
