Mozilla To 'End The Life’ For Firefox Mobile OS
Mozilla’s Firefox OS had begun its journey back in July 2011. Their aim was to compete and win against the then operating systems in the market, which were Android and iOS. But Firefox couldn’t do it. And while Android and iOS are going strong (now, more than ever), Mozilla has announced that they are working on an ‘end-of-life’ plan for smartphone project with Firefox 2.6 release. Mozilla says that they are doing this because they could not create a full ecosystem with differentiating end user proposition to win the commercial smartphone game.
So what next for Mozilla then? Well, they say that their Firefox OS team along with other members will be working for the next big thing in the tech market- the Internet of Things (IoT). They say that they are working on the Product Innovation Process to identify the products they wish to develop on the IoT platform. Currently the already approved products are the Smart TVs and - YouTube (a speech IoT user interface). Also, just like #-Link-Snipped-#, you can also expect that Mozilla will invite the non-staff members to work with them in the IoT space.

Although, the mobile OS will shut down from version 2.6, Mozilla will still continue using the same OS stack for the smart TVs and other products they will develop in future and their platform will remain open for volunteers and other enthusiasts who wish to provide further enhancement of the stack.
The #-Link-Snipped-# were in a lot of limelight when they were announced in this year’s CES. These TVs are again based on the Firefox OS and Mozilla has assured that they will continue working on strong web-based content offering on Smart TVs in the future. This means that even though the Firefox phone OS is coming to an end, the Firefox OS has just begun and is still here to stay.

That actually seems to be true. I guess the pace at which mobile companies are launching new products should slow down. Every new phone is being launched with incremental update and innovation; but consumers have to pay the full price.VK Charanlooks like we are looking at a smartphone market that is going to get saturated
It's good that Mozilla got out of the game earlier; but they never really mattered in the mobile game anyway.
