Mind Controlled Music Player From University of Plymouth, UK
Sometimes when we are alone and thinking about a particular music beat or a new song our subconscious mind creates an altogether new music beat. Well now you don’t need to be a music composer to create this beat. A machine developed by composer and computer music specialist Edurado Miranda from the University of Plymouth, UK allows you to create music beats or tunes just with the power of your head. This Brain-Computer interface allows you to just hook up your brain with the computer and create new tunes.
#-Link-Snipped-#In order to operate this machine the user needs to wear an EEG (electroencephalography) skull cup which is embedded with brain wave detecting electrodes. These in turn are connected to the computer. The system is equipped with the specialized software and jamming speakers. Now the user has to sit in front of a computer screen on which there are several buttons to be pushed. This system is similar to a virtual piano. Now all the user needs to do is to concentrate his eyes on any one of the buttons on the screen and the computer makes the sound for him, If the user focuses his attention harder on the button then the sound comes out louder. This technique basically works on the principle that the electrode tapes that are connected with your skull pick up tiny electrical impulses from the neurons in your brains and translates them into musical rhythm on a computer.
This device basically works on the principle of EEG (electroencephalography) which is one of the oldest Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technologies. But this is the first system which allows the computer to pick your brain waves, translate and record the information in a particular direction and translate it into action. However mind training is also required to get the machine in tune with the demands of the user. The trick is to train one’s mind to think in a particular direction so that the user can control his ideas and concentrate in a particular direction to control the BCI.
The potential of this system is enormous. Right now the system is tested on paralyzed patients and within a couple of hours they were able to create and play songs. This system can be used to create mind controlled automobiles, Help paralyzed patients in their daily tasks, to create pc with mind control etc. The future of this technology is bright and its scope is enormous. The main problem with this technology is that right now it’s not user friendly. The scientists have to make sure that it is available to the general public at a much more affordable price and easily. The future of science is here.
