The Microsoft Lumia 640 sports a 5-inch IPS LCD screen with HD (1280 x 720) resolution and a pixels per inch count of 294. Microsoft has included a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection and employs ClearBlack display technology that it inherited from Nokia. Underneath we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a 1.2 GHz processor and 1GB of RAM just like the Lumia 730. Internal memory space is at 8GB and like all new Lumia smartphones you get the option of expanding that storage to up to 128GB with the help of microSD cards. Microsoft is offering OneDrive storage of 15GB and promises to double that storage if you allow auto-upload of photos. The Microsoft Lumia 640 has an 8MP BSI sensor with LED flash at the back and a 0.9MP sensor on the front. The phone is powered by a 2500mAh user-replaceable battery that is claimed to last for 35 days on standby and offer up to 27.3 hours of talk time.

Lumia 640 XL

As you might have already guessed from the name the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL has a tad bigger display at 5.7 inches. Since the resolution remains the same as its smaller sibling, the Lumia 640 you get a low pixels per inch figure of 259. Display tech like ClearBlack and protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is duly included. Underneath the hood, the innards remain the same, a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory and a 128GB microSD card slot. Biggest improvement, apart from the display is the cameras. The Microsoft Lumia 640 XL has a ZEISS optics equipped 13 MP sensor with LED flash on the rear and a 5MP sensor on the front. The Lumia 640 XL is powered by a relatively large user-replaceable 3000mAh battery that is claimed to last for 39 days on standby and offer up to 31 hours of talk time.

If you ask us, it is tough to recommend which one is better. The Microsoft Lumia 640 is compact, has a better display and is easier on the pocket while the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL burns a larger hole in your pocket has a lacklustre display but compensates it by including better cameras and a bigger battery.
