Microsoft has unveiled the latest Windows smartphone- Lumia 638 in Indian market. Microsoft Lumia 638 is believed to be the cheapest 4G smartphone in the country. The Windows-running phone is priced at Rs 8299 and you can pre-book it from December 17 on Amazon.

Lumia 638 runs the latest Windows Phone 8.1 OS. It is powered by quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. The device comes with 1GB of RAM. On the storage is 8GB built in capacity which can be expanded to up-to 128GB with the provided slot for micro-SD support. There is not much change in the look of the device as compared to Lumia 535. Lumia 638 packs a rear camera of 5MP supporting 720p HD video recording but the device lacks front camera. It comes with 4.5 inch FWVGA ClearBlack IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. The device is powered by 1830 mAh battery.

To attract more customers, the new smartphone comes with an exclusive offer on Airtel 4G. Lumia 638 consumers in Bengaluru using Airtel postpaid connection can enjoy up-to 5GB of 4G data free of cost for 2 months post activation of their SIM on Lumia 638. The offer is valid for limited period up-to March 31, 2015. Other features like Microsoft Office, Microsoft Enterprise feature pack, HERE maps etc. are available. With numerous budget smartphones already available in the market it would be interesting to see how well Microsoft Lumia 638 can perform in under Rs 10k price tag.

What more could the phone do if it had a better/costlier processor and RAM? And, that too, with the Windows Phone OS 😁

May be they could have included a camera with more pixels or a display with more pixels per inch. And, because, those are the only upgradations that could be felt by a WP user 😁

But, I should admit it runs better 'as a simple phone' than the droids. Way smoother.
