Microsoft And Four Other Companies Sue Google
Almost a decade ago, Microsoft was sued by United states department of justice  for trying to monopolize the market by integrating a web browser i.e. the internet explorer as a default component in its windows operating system and thus restricting competition. Ironically, now Microsoft and four other companies which includes UK price comparison site Foudem, French legal search engine ejustice.fr and its parent company 1plusV, and German shopping site Ciao (owned by Microsoft), are suing Google for its alleged anti-competition policies. Microsoft will file the suit with the European commission.

The first allegation from Microsoft says that Google is preventing Microsoft’s search engine ‘Bing’ from accessing websites owned by Google in a way other websites do. Microsoft says that Google restricts Bing from indexing sites like YouTube completely and thus preventing it from displaying effective search results. Google has almost 95 % search market share in Europe and remaining 5% hold by Microsoft. The second allegation is about the latest mobile operating system launched by Microsoft- ‘the windows phone’. Microsoft says that Google prevents only their operating system from accessing metadata (the data about data) for videos on  YouTube.com. Microsoft says that Google should stop this kind of discrimination. The third allegation from Microsoft accuses Google for restricting competition by preventing the sites which use Google search boxes from providing other search boxes. Microsoft also says that Google bans European telecommunication companies from using services provided by Microsoft such as Windows live which includes email and online data storage. Google has also been accused of insisting on exclusivity, that is, persuading advertisers to use its system only. It will be a herculean task for Microsoft to prove the allegations.
