Mac Pro Desktop Computer's Tech Specs Pack 9.9 inch Design With Unified Thermal Core

The next generation of Apple Inc. popular workstation, the Mac Pro - Applewas unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference yesterday. The redesigned Mac Pro manages to pack in all its components in a 9.9 inch shell thanks to its unified thermal core. Let’s take look at how the thermal core works. In a normal workstation cooling is done my multiple heat sinks and fans that have been assigned to components like CPUs and GPUs, this design makes for a larger and power inefficient workstation. So Apple decided to build the entire system around a single piece of extruded aluminium that has been designed to maximise airflow and thermal capacity by conducting heat away from the CPU and GPUs and distributing that heat uniformly across the core. Also one unidirectional fan cools the entire unit instead of multiple smaller fans.

Inside the stunning design, Apple has fitted it with the new generation Intel Xeon E5 processors with up to 12 core configurations to give it twice the floating point performance of its predecessors. Two AMD FirePro workstation grade GPUs with up to 6GB of dedicated VRAMprovide computing capability of 7 teraflops. For faster data speeds, the Cupertino giant has ditched regular hard drives and opted for 40 Gbps capable PCIe based flash storage instead. For a higher memory bandwidth four channel 60 Gbps capable ECC DDR3 RAM operating at 1866 MHz has also been included. According to Apple, the entire configuration will be capable of editing 4K video while simultaneously rendering effects in the background.

Since workstations often require upgrading to handle more data, the Mac Pro comes with six Thunderbolt 2 ports that support up to six daisy-chained devices, multiple PCI expansion chassis, audio and video breakout boxes and support for newer 4K desktop displays. Another thing about this workstation that Apple takes pride in is the fact that it has been for the first time manufactured in the US itself. The next generation Mac Pro will be available later this year at an yet undisclosed price.
