Lycos Life Wearable Devices To Feature Security, Fitness & Messaging Tech

Wearable devices are the latest 'in' thing. Jumping into the bandwagon, Lycos - an Internet company which has a number of web portals and a search engine under its portfolio, has announced the launch of its series of wearable devices under the brand name 'Lycos Life'. Its two products are primarily a smart wristband (to be sold at $125) and a smart ring (to be sold at $60). Similar to the other popular wearable gadgets in the market, the Lycos Life products will let you do a number of functions from the comfort of your compact device. These functions could include online payments, workout monitoring, secure communication via password protected messaging etc.

Lycos Life will have an app that resides on your smartphone or tablet. The wearable devices securely communicate various data such as the wearer's movement patterns (heart rate, activity via calories burned and even sleep) to the Lycos app via bluetooth and Tap to Transfer (T2T) protocol. The app transfers notifications for new message or call to the smart wristband or ring. The sensors embedded on the Lycos wearables are able to uniquely identify the wearer. Therefore, on wearing it, you will be automatically logged in to all your frequently used websites and apps without the need of you manually entering any passwords.

There's more. Other than the suite of IoT (Internet of Things) devices, the company is also launching the non-profit project under the same name 'Lycos Life'. This project will use the sensor and wireless communication technology to provide people with access to critical, life-saving information such as the quality of water and air in their homes. To enable this, 5% of sales from these wearable devices will be donated to this humanitarian project. Sounds great, right?
