LG's Curved OLED TV & G Flex Smartphone Reach India - Price Is Sky High

LG, the Korean global tech giant has announced that its two curved screen gadgets - The LG Curved OLED TV and the LG G-Flex smartphone have been launched in India. LG had the first curved OLED TV during CES and the behemoth of a TV made raves all over. LG Electronics had started accepting pre-orders for the 55-inch TV in South Korea back in April. The tech specs of this thin TV with depth of 4.3mm, weighs as light as 17 kgs because of the efficiently designed carbon-fiber frame. If a huge 55-inch IMAX-like theater at home is something that you are looking forward to, you will be able to keep one for yourself at about 1400 LG Retails stores at a price of no less than Rs. 9,99,000 in India.

The LG Curved OLED TV features a 55-inch screen and LG's Clear Speakers, which match the audio quality of movie theatres. The manufacturer also offers Magic Remote, which has features like Gesture, Pointing, Wheel, Voice and Universal Control. The Red Dot design award winning television is curved, but it also has a crystal transparent stand and a very intuitive and natural user interface with smart touch controls. The immersive viewing angles of the curved screen have been augmented by four colour (WRGB) technology.

The next major release in India is the LG G Flex smartphone. LG India MD Soon Kwon said he was confident that the Indian customers were early adopters of technology. He said, "We are proud to present LG Curved OLED TV and LG G Flex Smartphone, world's first curved technology products to India. The unique and immersive curved design will provide consumers with an ultimate viewing experience. Our target is to capture 30% market share in flat panels and 10% market share in smart phones by end of next year."

Though we don't have the pricing details of the LG G Flex smartphone, Amit Gujral, general manager at LG Electronics, said the phone can be expected to be priced between Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 65,000.

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Round Features World's First Full HD Super AMOLED Flexible Display, the G Flex is curved from the top to bottom and has a bigger 6 inch display. Before we jump to the detailed analysis of the innards let us take a look at the things that are unique to the LG G Flex. Starting with the display, the curved 6 inch 720p (1280 x 720) Plastic OLED (POLED) display was developed exclusively for the G Flex by LG Display & LG Chem. The POLED display and OLED panel are built on plastic substrates instead of glass to make it more durable. LG has also given the G Flex a “Self Healing” coating on the back cover of the smartphone. This elastic coating cover will repair any small nicks and scratches caused by daily use by itself in minutes.

The phone has an internal memory of 32 GB and #-Link-Snipped-# does not mention any external storage option for the Korean model. Shutterbugs will be glad to find a rear 13.0MP and a front 2.1MP snapper. The smartphone has a non-user removable embedded 3,500mAh battery that has been developed by using LG’s patented Stack & Folding technology. G Flex works on LTE-A, LTE, HSPA+ and GSM bands and offers connectivity options like USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and NFC.

Apart from the 'Rear Keys' introduced with the G2, the LG G Flex also incorporates the some new user interface features, such as QTheater for quick access to photos, videos and YouTube from the lock screen; Dual Window for multitasking with two windows; Swing Lockscreen for a dynamic lockscreen image based on the way the phone's held; as well as three Rear Key LED indicators - Face Detection, Camera Timer and Urgent Call Alert.

The CRT displays have been using a curved screen for decades and don't cost even 1/100th of this one 😁 *kidding*
