Sensing the imminent threat from new Xiaomi launches, Lava has stepped up its game and announced a new addition to its Iris range of smartphones. The Lava Iris Alfa aims to provide affordable Android KitKat experience for budget conscious customers in India. Priced at Rs. 6550, the Lava Iris Alfa will take on popular smartphones like Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Moto E. Lava Iris Alfa starts strong in the competition by offering a big 5-inch display but mars its performance by giving it FWVGA (854 x 480) resolution and no protective glass. Inside, the company has crammed in an unspecified 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 1GB RAM to run Android 4.4 (KitKat). The cameras on the Lava Iris Alfa are also not expected to excite customers due to their low resolution sensors. On the rear we find a 5 MP auto-focus camera with BSI+ sensor and LED flash. To spice things up a bit Lava adds full HD resolution video recording support, HDR and panorama modes to the camera. On the front we get a VGA sensor that supports operator video calling along with internet video calls.

The Lava Iris Alfa runs short on internal memory as only 2.38GB of the 8GB internal memory remains vacant for user files and 3.38 GB is dedicated for apps storage. A 32GB microSD card slot is thrown for good measure. The good news comes in form of the battery which is a 2200 mAh Li-Polymer which is claimed for the company to provide up to 22 hours of talk time. On the 3G dual SIM enabled Lava Iris Alfa we find connectivity options like Wi-Fi, microUSB, Bluetooth 2.1 and A-GPS navigation support. Lava throws in freebies like TrueCaller Premium for 6 months and Hungama with free downloads. Inside the box the user get the handset in black or white colour, battery, headset, data cable, charger, user manual, 1 year warranty card and a flip cover.

Overall the Lava Iris Alfa offers good features but does not manage to rise above its competitors. For more information on the new smartphone head over to #-Link-Snipped-# and #-Link-Snipped-# on the Lava Mobiles website.
