LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 Is The World's Fastest Portable Hard Drive

LaCie has announced the world's fastest portable storage with - LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 Hard Drive that offers up to 1,375MB/s speeds for 4K video editing, Dual Thunderbolt 2 ports for daisy chaining, a compact size for field-based creative workflows and whisper-quiet dual cooling. The 1 TB SSD has been made available in the U.S. for a whooping price of $1,299. Yep. We know you are thinking of buying a Macbook Pro for that amount. Still, if you are ready to shell out that kind of money, let us take a look down the specifications list for the all-new Little Big Disk Hard Drive.

Equipped with two PCIe SSDs, two thunderbolt ports, LaCie offers an interface transfer rate of 20 Gb/s. The Hard Drive reads at a speed of 1,375 MB/s and writes at 1,180 MB/s. Users can connect up to six Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt technology-compatible devices to a computer via a single Thunderbolt cable. Among the RAID modes, you shall find a preconfigured RAID 0 striped set and a RAID 0 / 1 / JBOD configuration using Mac OS Disk Utility. The interface technology at play here brings in a high-resolution display and editing raw 4K video.

Coming to the security features, there's AES 256-bit software encryption and the hard drive is made Kensington lock compatible. As you can see from the pictures above, the Little Big Disk sports all-aluminum enclosure and comes with improved internal heat dissipation. The overall weight of the hard disk is 620 g and it comes packed with Intego Backup Manager Pro on connecting it with your Macbook.

LaCie notes here that those awesome transfer rates were achieved using AJA System Test when connected to a 15" MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz Quad Core and 8GB RAM with 32k block size.
