Indian Railways have certainly made life a whole lot simpler for commuters by introducing the new mobile ticketing app for mobile phones. Though the application is still in the developing stage, it is being assured that commuters would no longer have to wait in long lines and wait for printouts of their tickets. All the customer has to do is download the 'M-ticket' application on their mobile phone,  and carry some kind of valid identification proof. The ticket will be transported to them by SMS on their mobile phones through the same application. This mobile ticket can not be forwarded. The procedure for mobile bookings will imply logging on to the railway website  #-Link-Snipped-#, registering, and using the allotted user identity number (ID) for bookings.

Introducing the M-ticket!

Riddance of the ticket printouts has definitely made the Indian Railways more modernized and a lot more accessible. Apart from making it easy for commuters to book their tickets, it also helps them to make their own reservations without referring a travel agency. This additional feature will definitely help commuters in the rural parts of the country. Since most travel agencies often block tickets and sell them at a higher price, this will  forbid ticketing fraud. However, the introduction of the mobile ticketing application will not completely rule out the bearing of travel agencies, but it will make it more organized.

Previously, Railway Travel Service Agents (RTSA) used to sell tickets and make reservations for the customers without really registering them on the IRCTC website. It will now be compulsory for individuals as well as travel agents to register themselves before making any future reservations. S. S Mathur, GM-IT states that ‘there will be no additional charges and that they were planning to stick to their current prices”.

“Booking and payment can be made on the mobile itself and an SMS with ticket details will be sent to the user,” said S Chandrayan, chief PRO, Western Railway. The cost of sending this SMS, will be endured by the railways. A service charge of Rs 5 for sleeper and reserved second sitting and Rs 10 for third, second and first class AC coaches will be applicable.
