HP Announces Stream 11 and Stream 13 Windows Notebook PCs; Prices Start At $199

At a time when major companies like Samsung and Sony have decided to ditch their PC manufacturing divisions, Hewlett-Packard Development Company is trying something new to make laptops cool again with the Stream 11 and Stream 13 Windows 8.1 notebook PCs. As speculated earlier, HP has made these notebook PCs affordable enough to offer stiff competition to Android tablets and Chromebooks. The prices of the HP Stream 11 and HP Stream 13 will start at $199.99 and $229.99 respectively. The question you now might be asking is, what features can a Rs. 12K or a Rs. 14K priced laptop offer? The answers are in the following paragraphs.

HP as always has been stingy on the details but has provided enough information to get us excited. You can’t help but notice the bright colours of these notebook PCs. HP likes to call the colour variants Orchid Magenta and Horizon Blue. You get the choice of a 11.6” HD display or 13.3” HD optional touch display. Please note that you cannot get touch screen display with the HP Stream 11. Inside the HP Stream 11 and 13 you can find an Intel Celeron processor and 32GB of eMMC flash memory. Yes, it’s what inside these laptops that make them so cheap. The fellows from #-Link-Snipped-# who managed to attend the launch event in New York City were able to find out more details about these notebooks. According to them, both HP Stream 11 and 13 house an Intel Celeron N2840 CPU, Intel HD Graphics and 2GB of RAM. This configuration sounds quite good for a laptop at this price point. HP says that the Stream 11 will last for 8 hours & 15 minutes and the Stream 13 will last for 7 hours & 45 minutes on a single charge. HP proudly states in the product pages that these devices are “Packed with ports” but fails to mention which ones.

HP throws in a couple of Microsoft freebies with these notebooks such as 1TB of Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage and Office 365 Personal for one year, $25 Microsoft Store gift card and an optional 200MB of free 4G data each month with no annual contract for the life of the device (HP Stream 13 only). We like these laptops because of their bold design, island keyboard and affordable prices. We would like to know what you like or dislike about the HP Stream 11 and Stream 13. HP Stream notebooks have started arriving in India but we are very disappointed with their launch. The HP Stream 11 that costs $199.99 (approx Rs. 12K) in the US has been #-Link-Snipped-# for Rs. 19,990. The HP Stream 13 has not arrived yet but judging from the India price of its smaller sibling, we expect the Stream 13 to cost around Rs. 22000.
So much for affordable laptops by HP and Windows. 👎
