Happy Auto Android App Reviews AutoRickshaw Drivers - Launched By Bangalore City Police

Happy Auto is a new Android application launched by Bangalore City Police in India under the 'Sugama Savari' campaign to keep a check on Auto Rickshaw drivers so that they follow the traffic rules and behave properly with the passengers. The #-Link-Snipped-# which is now available for free download on the Google Play Store lets you - the auto's passenger - review a particular Auto driver and log the feedback into the app. This review from the users will be evaluated and the auto drivers who have behaved exceptionally will be identified and rewarded with a set of goodies including a "Happy Auto" sticker. These stickers when pasted on the autos will help commuters to identify Happy Autos and use them without any apprehension. Developed by the youth of Bangalore with the backing from their sponsors, the Happy Auto app aims at giving the citizens a hassle-free auto ride experience.

Coming to the 'Sugama Savari' initiative, the campaign was launched by Kannada actor Sudeep at an event in Cubbon Park on Wednesday morning. This campaign is a response generated by the Bangalore City Police following several complaints of harassment by auto drivers demanding excess fare or refusing to go to certain destinations. Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said auto drivers were important representatives of the city. "It is the responsibility of drivers to ensure passengers reach their destinations safely. Drivers should take special care to ensure the safety of women travelling alone,'' he said. "Anything that is uploaded for or against any auto will be automatically linked to the city traffic police server. We'd like rate the individual's performance and behaviour to laud their good services. At the same time, we'll book cases if we find them committing offences. The software, developed by an entrepreneur, is designed for this," said additional commissioner of police (traffic) B Dayanand.

As you can see from the Happy Auto app's screenshots above, you can rate any auto driver by authenticating your number and a verification code. The app lets you give the positive or negative rating to the auto drivers based on their license number. The police department also plans to felicitate the best auto driver of the month based on the feedback. In another move to improve the auto rickshaw service in the city, Bangalore based social enterprise, India Drivers Network had launched mGaadi, a call auto service, back in November this year.

So, how do you like the idea of having an app for rating the auto drives. Share your thoughts about the Sugama Savari campaign and the Happy Auto app in comments below.

After the rising concern for safety of women, this move could help in finding a more safer autorichaw. But the success relies on passengers who travel and they must use the app to evaluate the auto performance.

There have been cases where sick passengers were refused to be taken to the hospital. Such incidents should be reported at any cost. Happy Auto will be of great help here.

    Hi Ankita,
Thanks for the mGaadi mention. Wanted to update that we launched our Android App on Dec 10. We invite you to download and try out the mGaadi service. If an app review comes out of it, it'll of course be a bonus.

    Thanks,
Vishy (co-founder of India Drivers Network)

    WOW !
I never thought that of this type of app, awesome.

This would definitely help in reducing crime and helping people to rate the auto's. I hope that sooner the same thing will be rolled out for the entire nation. Also, important for Bangalore folks to rate the autos and makes it a big success.

    Kudos to Bangalore police.
