GOQii: Fitness Tracker Wearable Now With Human Coaches

After smartphones, now almost every tech company is jumping onto smart wearable devices, many of them focusing on health, nutrition and fitness. We have seen people making New Year or Birthday resolutions to work out to stay fit for the year and we have also seen people who could not make it even for a month. For all these people, a new company believes that it has figured out a solution for this. GOQii (pronounced Go-Key) is a latest wearable device with a wristband, coupled with human coaches to keep users motivated by analyzing their fitness data and helping them to stay fit.

What’s The Idea?

Vishal Gondal, founder and CEO of GOQii explained that this device accesses users to the world’s best coaches who are trying to help people desiring to make a shift in lifestyle. Vishal Gondal founded IndiaGames -India’s largest online gaming developers which Disney acquired in 2011 for a whopping $100 million. GOQii based in California which also has an office in Mumbai would be launching its pilot program for 1,000 users. The company is expecting to launch regular service by the year-end in US, UAE, UK and Singapore.

The Device

The smart wristband itself is free but the service would initially be costing Rs.9,999 for a year and Rs. 5,999 for a period of six months. This subscription fee would include advice and motivation from fitness experts via audio/video calls and messaging service. The price includes the device having OLED display showing the number of calories burnt, the distance ran and also the user’s sleep pattern. The device resembles much to Samsung Gear Fit and is sweat-proof and comes with water resistant body. It has a motion sensor and can sync with smartphone via Bluetooth and can run up to 4-5 days on a single charge. An interesting fact is that it has a high-five feature where user’s coach can step in real-time to congratulate for good workout. The coach can also remotely vibrate the band as a pat on back.

It Tracks Your Karma!

The feature of leaderboard is replaced with Karma (remember, founder is Indian!) for motivation. Whenever an activity is finished, user earns karma points. More the activity, more the karma points. These points can be redeemed with GOQii’s partners. As of now non-profit called Oxfam International has signed up and company believes that many more would soon join the queue.

The company’s investors include Angel Investors, Google Senior Vice President Amit Singhal and others including Bollywood beauty Madhuri Dixit-Nene. So, would you like to use this as your fitness tracker? Do share your thoughts in comments below on this latest device.
