Google's 'Project Zero' To Be The Bug Busters Team For The Internet
On its official blog, Google recently announced 'Project Zero', an initiative that aims at making Internet more secure. Security has always been the top most priority for the internet giant, Google. They have already applied various security measures in making their services such as Gmail, Drive and even search more secure by SSL encryption. The recent discovery of the Hearbleed bug, left all of us drenched in fear, and thus Google started this new project to find un-discovered bugs in third-party software products.
It led to the starting of Project Zero, where Googlers can spend their time to make internet more safe and earn a bounty as well. Google seems to seamlessly work towards its new project with a well-staffed team. Project Zero aims at hiring security researchers, rolling the ball to ensure security on Internet.
Not only this, but it seems Google will ensure transparency as well, because it has planned to have every new bug discovered by first informing to the respective company (no third-party) and late after patching the bug, filing it in the external database. This would enable everyone to view the time taken by vendor to fix the bug, historical exploits and any discussions on it. All this would be carried out in a real time as quickly as possible so that the fix can be applied.
Google is hiring all technical experts, giving them a distraction-proof environment to contribute to the cause, as even a bug in say, Adobe Flash can affect Googlers. The Project is said to be headed by Chris Evans, who was the head of Chrome Security. It includes several other experts and the first intern in this team would be George Hotz, who cracked iPhoneâs security lock and recently, he also found a exploit to gain root access in almost any Android Device.
This seems a great news for all the hackers, who want to contribute to the cause and earning some bucks as well. What do you think of this new project by Google? Please let us know through comments.
